Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez Elected To Rangers Hall Of Fame
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez, one of the best all-time catchers for the Rangers, was elected to the club's Hall of Fame today as it's official 16th member.
The Puerto Rico native was signed to the Rangers in 1988 as an amateur free agent. He made his major league debut with Texas on June 20, 1991 at the age of 19.
In 1,507 career games with Texas, Rodriguez hit .304 with 217 homers and 842 RBIs. He ranks second in club history in hits (1747), doubles (352), and multi-hit games (490).
Rodriguez was named as the American League MVP in 1999 when he helped lead the Rangers to the third of three consecutive A.L. West division titles. That year he batted .332 with 35 homers and 113 RBI.
The 13 Gold Gloves that Rodriguez won are the most ever for a catcher. He is also the all-time major league leader with 2427 games behind the plate.
Rodriguez announced his retirement as an active player after a 21-year career in baseball in April 2012.
His induction will be July 20th during a ceremony before the home game against Baltimore.
