It's Good To Be The King!
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - "It's about damn time!"
LeBron James barked out those words when asked how it feels to finally win an NBA Championship. King James finally accomplished what many hoped and prayed he would not, WIN IT ALL. Not only did LeBron win, he did it with style, class and maybe one of the most impressive NBA Finals performances ever.
Like many, I fell for the youth and firepower of the OKC Thunder before the series started. Initially, in my NBA "Sock Drawer Predictions," I had chosen the HEAT to beat the Thunder in the Finals. Shame on me for falling for the hype like every other sports talking, writing, blogging, reporting blowhard around. I should have stuck to my guns and taken the Heat.
However, after watching LeBron and company struggle with the Pacers and then the aging Celtics, I fell for the trap. Kevin Durant and company fooled us all by blowing by the Mavs, Lakers and Spurs in very impressive style. There was no way LeBron, Wade and Bosh were going to stop this younger runaway train of Durant, Westbrook and Harden. It was not going to happen. Not this year.
You don't just average 28.6 PPG, 10.2 RPG and 7.4 APG in the NBA Finals. Only the great ones do that, and only the really great ones win it all in style like King James did last night. Clinching and closing out the Finals with a triple double? Pressure? What pressure? If there was pressure on LeBron James last night, I never saw it. He played this series with a religious fervor. You saw it in his eyes. There was no smiling, no laughing, no fake coughing (Dirk) and FUTZING around. Lebron James knew his legacy was on the line if he did not lead his team to an NBA Championship this year. He was spectacular -- 26 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists!
Where we ridiculed and ripped LeBron James to shreds for his decision to do "The Decision," he learned his lesson the hard way. The loss to the Dallas Mavericks last year not only humbled him as a man and a player, it embarrassed the hell out of him. He came back this season with a passion, vengeance and focus that was unmistakable. There were a few moments in the postseason where James and company could've been doubted, but LeBron was not going to allow it to happen this year.
Kudos to you LeBron James. You played out of this world and were not going to be denied. Got to give you your props.
I guess it really is GOOD TO BE THE KING… JAMES, that is.
