Irving Teenage Murder Suspects Were Looking To Rob Someone

IRVING (CBS11) — Two Irving teenagers charged with capital murder admitted to police they had gone out Saturday morning to rob someone when one of them shot and killed 45-year-old Maurice Crawford.
Miguel Angel Martinez, 17, along with a 16-year-old suspect targeted Crawford, according to investigators, because he was sitting in his car in front of his home.
"We just think it was completely random," Irving Police Sgt. James McLellan said. "They were walking down the sidewalk and they had seen him sitting in his car … so it was just pure opportunity."
Demorius Ducking, 16, told police he ran outside when he heard his mother's fiancé and the two suspects fighting. According to the arrest affidavit, the 16-year-old suspect, who was on the ground fighting with Crawford, told Martinez, "Shoot him." He did, and then turned and shot Ducking in the face.
Ducking's mother, who had just come outside to see her son get shot, said he will fully recovery from his injury.
Ducking, a sophomore at Nimitz High School, recognized both of the suspects as being "schoolmates", according to police records.
Irving ISD confirmed Martinez attends Singley Academy, a career-oriented high school in the district.
