Irving PD Bust Nets 1,600+ Pounds Of Marijuana

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Irving police have arrested four people they say were transporting more than 1600 pounds of marijuana.

According to Irving officials, an anonymous tip reported that a U-Haul truck, with a large amount of narcotics, was within the city limits. Acting on the information, police found a truck in a business parking lot on Irving Boulevard.

As investigators monitored activity around the truck, a car pulled in and dropped off a man who then got in the U-haul and drove away.

Police pulled the driver over for a traffic violation and called for reinforcements. A narcotics detection K-9 arrived and alerted fellow officers to the presence of drugs. When police searched the cargo area of the U-Haul they found more than 100 cardboard boxes of marijuana. The drugs were wrapped in plastic and placed in the boxes, along with powder cement.

Officers arrested 44-year-old Laurencio Hernandez Jr., 25-year-old Jose Alberto Flores, 21-year-old Oscar Hernandez and 36-year-old Juan Luis Rangel. All of the men have been charged with Possession of marijuana under 2,000 pounds.

Officials estimate the street value of the marijuana at $1.6 million.
