Irving Man Arrested For Stepson's Death

DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) - A two-year-old Irving boy is dead and police have arrested his Stepfather with his murder.

The investigation started Wednesday when toddler boy was rushed to Children's Medical Center.

The boy's stepfather, 25-year-old Michael David Mercado called 911.

According to police records he told the operator his son had a seizure.

Doctors quickly discovered his son had in fact suffered severe head injuries and was placed on a ventilator.

Investigators say Mercado was home alone at his Irving apartment with his stepson for five hours on Wednesday when he called 911.

His next-door neighbor told said he never thought Mercado was capable of the crime he's been charged with.

"Every time I met him he was always polite, very calm, had no idea something like this could happen."

Friday the two-and a half year old boy died at Children's Medical Center. After his death his step-father was arrested for capital murder.

This investigation is still in its early stages.
