Irving's MacArthur High School Went On Lockdown For 6 Hours Due To 'Possible Threat Of Student With Gun'; No Gun Was Found
IRVING, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - MacArthur High School went on lockdown around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, due to a possible threat of a student with a handgun.
Irving Police said there were no injuries to anyone, but students weren't released to go home at the normal time to lockdown procedures.
Police said three "male suspects" were detained and later released to their parents.
As of 6:20 p.m., police said it was unclear if there actually was a weapon on campus.
By 9:30 p.m. it was determined there was no gun.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m., Irving ISD said in a statement on Twitter, "Irving Police Department has taken control of the building, and once the entire building has been assessed and cleared, the police department will implement a slow release of building occupants, which could take up to two hours."
Students were evacuated on buses to Travis Middle School.
Police explained on Twitter around 5:30 p.m. how parents could pick up their kid there.
Police said students who drove to school on Wednesday, should get a ride with someone else home and get their vehicles on Wednesday.
At 9:15 p.m., Irving Police tweeted, "We are still in the process of evacuating, & transporting students to the reunification site at Travis MS. The 3 juvenile suspects that were detained were transported to our station & released to parents as part of our juvenile procedures. No weapon has been found yet."
Irving ISD said school will resume on Thursday and there will be added security measures.
