Irving ISD Names Acting Interim Superintendent
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The Irving Independent School District's board of trustees named Debbie Cabrera as acting interim superintendent at a special meeting on Friday morning. This comes after Dr. Dana Bedden vacated the position on Monday.
Cabrera has been a member of the district since 1997, taking on several roles including associate superintendent of business services. "Cabrera has the experience and leadership that will keep Irving ISD moving forward," said board president Dr. Steven Jones in a statement on Friday. "We are committed to the students, staff and families of this great district, and today begins the process of finding the next leader to guide Irving ISD."
Candidates are set to start interviewing later this month for a long-term interim superintendent position. The district plans to hire a search firm to help identify top education leaders from across the nation who could be considered for the permanent superintendent job.
Bedden submitted his letter of resignation to the board of trustees on Monday. The board had reportedly been critical of Bedden's leadership. The former superintendent was passed over for a job in North Carolina last month. School board vice president Larry Stipes said, "The Board and Dr. Bedden have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests in order for the Board to pursue a different philosophical direction for the district."
