Irving Enacts Further Water Restrictions
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) – The city of Irving has enacted Stage 2 water restrictions, which further limits the amount of time residents can water their lawns.
Starting August 11, even-numbered addresses can water Tuesdays and Saturdays while odd-numbered addresses have the OK on Wednesdays and Sundays, a news release said.
However, no irrigation is allowed on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays, or between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. any day of the week.
"Irving's daily water demand has been steadily increasing since early June from about 40 million gallons per day up to a recent peak of more than 66 MGD," Water Utilities Director Todd Reck wrote in a statement. "Moving to the mandatory schedule in Stage 2 should reduce water demand and help maintain safe water levels.
The restrictions allow residents to soak their building foundations and grass with a hand-held hose, soaker hose, bucket or drip irrigation for up to two hours before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on designated days.
Violators face a $2,000 fine per instance.
The state climatologist last week announced Texas is in the midst of the worst one-year drought on record. There was less than an inch of rain statewide in July, and more than 90 percent of the state's counties remain in two of the most extreme stages of drought.
In North Texas, Tuesday marked the 39th day in a row that the temperature at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport reached 100 degrees.
