Irving Officers Rescue Couple From House Fire

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Fast-working police officers in Irving are being credited with saving the lives of two people in a burning duplex. The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the 2700 block of Pioneer Drive. The officers were on patrol when they saw heavy smoke coming from the building.

The two officers entered the duplex and found an elderly bed-ridden man on oxygen. They safely removed him from the burning bedroom, and also escorted an elderly female out of the home. Fire crews then arrived and saved the couple's three dogs.

The man was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with minor burns and smoke inhalation. The female was treated on the scene and released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
