IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A convenience store employee in Irving was robbed at gunpoint shortly after midnight Tuesday the 1900 block of E. Grauwyler Road.
Police say the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's car keys.
The victim refused and the suspect went behind the counter and began stealing merchandise. During the robbery, the suspect grabbed a metal baseball bat from behind the counter and used it to strike the victim repeatedly.
He then took the victim's keys and fled the scene in the victim's car. The victim suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
That stolen car ended up in Oklahoma. On Thursday, Irving Police detectives were contacted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation regarding the victim's stolen car.
Law enforcement officials were investigating a bank robbery and shooting in Eufaula, Oklahoma that day. The suspect in their case reportedly committed a bank robbery, killing the bank manager, and fled in the Irving victim's stolen car. The suspect was later shot and killed after engaging law enforcement officers in gunfire.
Detectives are working to determine if the suspect in the Oklahoma bank robbery is responsible for the January 19 robbery in Irving.
