EL PASO (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Federal officials say a man suspected of fatally shooting a doctor and himself at an El Paso veterans' clinic was a former clerk at the facility, who had threatened the doctor in 2013.
The FBI identified the gunman in Tuesday's shooting as Jerry Serrato.
Douglas Lindquist, who heads the FBI's El Paso office, said Wednesday that Serrato used a .380-caliber handgun to shoot Dr. Timothy Fjordbak and himself at the El Paso Veterans Affairs Health Care System at Fort Bliss. The clinic is in a complex that includes the William Beaumont Army Medical Center.
Lindquist says Fjordbak had reported Serrato made an unspecified verbal threat against him at an El Paso supermarket.
