Interim DA Says Staff 'Unnerved' By Killings

KAUFMAN (AP) — The prosecutor who has replaced the district attorney murdered in North Texas says her staff is "unnerved" but will continue to adhere to their oath to serve the community.

Interim District Attorney Brandi Fernandez said during a news conference Thursday attended by Gov. Rick Perry that the killings of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia have not slowed prosecution efforts by her office.

Fernandez says trials and the prosecution of cases have not been delayed by the statewide investigation into the shooting deaths Saturday of the McLellands at their home near Forney and the killing Jan. 31 of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.

Fernandez says she's proud of assistant prosecutors as they continue their work despite the killers remaining at large.
