Man Trying To Break Up Fight Injured During Shootout In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - He was trying to break up a fight, and now that man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the groin. Police need the public's help in finding the people responsible.

Investigators say the argument started in a parking lot. The victim who was trying to break it up started to walk away when one of the men pulled a gun, but he soon got caught in the crossfire.

Crime scene markers indicated shell casings after bullets went flying in the parking lot behind Ragin Crab and several other restaurants along Greenville Avenue. The violent scene stands in sharp contrast to the atmosphere Lower Greenville resident Asher Miller says drew him to live in the neighborhood.

"I can't believe that somewhere that I go to almost every single day has got an active gunfire incident," Miller said.

Police say when one of two men arguing with each other pulled a gun, a third man also pulled a gun and the two began firing at each other. The man trying to break up the initial argument was shot in the groin and taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Now some people who live nearby are thinking twice about getting involved in someone else's fight.

"I definitely will keep my wits about me when I'm out here at night a little bit more," Miller said.

Investigators say the three men involved in the dispute all took off in unknown directions.
