IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -A woman booked into the Irving Municipal Jail for heroin and drug paraphernalia possession Friday, April 15 around 8:00 p.m. was found dead in her cell less than 48 hours later.

Irving Police say jail staff found Teresa Giles, 48, unresponsive in her cell shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday.

Police say paramedics tried to save her and she was rushed to the hospital where she was ultimately pronounced dead.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner has performed an autopsy and the results are pending.

Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma to Giles.

According to the arrest affidavit, officers who pulled Giles over for an outstanding warrant, police say Giles told officers she had drug paraphernalia inside her purse.  There they found two empty syringes with heroin residue along with a spoon with a heroin soaked cotton filter in it.

Police also say they found 1.9 grams of black tar heroin wrapped in plastic inside the vehicle's center console.

The investigation into her death continues.
