Injuries After Dallas Fire Engine & Car Collide
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A serious crash involving a vehicle and a ladder engine with Dallas Fire rescue injured sent one person to the hospital.
The accident happened right around lunchtime, in Oak Cliff, just east of Interstate-35E.
Dallas Fire Rescue says before the accident, the engine had both its lights and siren running. The car started to slow down, but made a left-hand turn in front of the engine as it approached, causing a collision that pushed the car about 100 feet and into a utility pole.
Video from Chopper 11 showed the mangled, 4-door vehicle, with major damage to the passenger side. The gray-colored Infiniti was turned sideways and up on the curb. The fire engine was completely in the front yard of a residence.
None of the four firefighters inside the engine was injured in the crash. They were able to help extricate the driver from the vehicle, who was later sent to the hospital with unknown injuries.
DFR says the fire truck was en route to a 1-alarm blaze at the time of the crash, which was extinguished with the help of another unit sent to the location.
Up to four customers temporarily lost power to their homes as a result of the broken power pole. A temporary power pole had been put in place.
