Injured Man Escapes Fire To Get Help From Neighbor
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Just before dawn a fire broke out in an apartment, adjacent to a home on Fort Worth's west side.
One person, inside the apartment on Blackstone Drive, was seriously injured but managed to crawl out a window and run across the street to a neighbor's house. The neighbor immediately called 911.
Captain Tom Crow, with the Fort Worth Fire Department, said the victim, whose name had not been released, was able to get help despite being severely burned.
"Evidently there were some second and third degree burns but he was able to exit the structure," said Crow. "He was able to make it over to a resident's house to alert them."
When first responders arrived at the scene they realized the man's injuries were severe.
"MedStar requested an air ambulance and was dispatched," said Crow. "He [the victim] was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas."
As that man continues to recover officials now focused on the cause of the blaze.
"They have not made origin cause determination at this time," said Crow. "They are working on that as we speak. So they are trying to determine exactly what caused the fire."
The man transported to the Parkland Burn Unit was the only one injured in the fire. His condition isn't known.
