FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Fort Worth police officer who was shot five times in March will be heading home soon.
The Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement Friday that Officer Matt Pearce is set for release from the Texas Rehabilitation Hospital on Tuesday morning, May 10. The hospital is located at 425 Alabama Ave. in Fort Worth.
Officials said Pearce will be escorted to his home by his colleagues from the police department.
"The Pearce family welcomes those who want to attend and show their support for Matt and wish him well in his recovery," officials said in the statement.
According to the statement, Pearce will be sent home to rest before beginning the next phase of his recovery in Houston.
On the GoFundMe page for Officer Matt Pearce, the family said that Matt will have another scan in about two months to check the injury to his aorta to make sure it's not getting bigger or starting to bleed.
Officer Pearce has worked with the Fort Worth Police Department since 2009.
