DALLAS (CBS11 I-Team) - A Dallas Uber driver suspected of sexually assaulting a passenger may have not gone through the same screening process as most other drivers.
The CBS 11 I-Team has learned Talal Chammout, a convicted felon, was among a group of drivers who were grandfathered into Uber's system.
Uber did not run an independent criminal background check on all these drivers.
These drivers needed to have a valid city permit which requires the passage of a criminal background check.
However, it was discovered this week Chammout used a fake Dallas city permit when applying to be an Uber driver.
Chammout was arrested Friday after investigators said he followed a passenger into her home and sexually assaulted her.
An Uber spokesperson told the CBS 11 I-Team the company has reviewed all of the other drivers who were grandfathered into the system. The spokesperson said there were no issues with any of their background checks.
