Judge Pushes Hurd Trial Back 1 Week

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A pretrial conference was held Friday for a former NFL wide receiver charged with starting a drug-distribution network. Prosecutors and attorneys for former Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys player Sam Hurd were in a Dallas federal court.

Hurd was first arrested in December 2011 outside of a Chicago-area steakhouse after agents alleged that he accepted cocaine. Hurd was re-arrested last year after authorities said that he tried to buy more drugs and failed two drug tests.

If convicted, Hurd could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

The 27-year-old remains at a Dallas-area prison without bond. The judge on Friday agreed to delay his trial date by one week, to April 15.
