Hurd's Drug Trial Delayed Until August

DALLAS (AP) - A federal judge has delayed the drug conspiracy trial for former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd until August.

U.S. District Judge Jorge Solis granted the delay until Aug. 6 at the request of Hurd's co-defendant, Toby Lujan. Trial had been set for April 2.

Hurd is a former Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys player. He and Lujan are accused of trying to buy large quantities of marijuana and cocaine to launch a drug-distribution network. The 26-year-old Hurd was arrested Dec. 14 outside a Chicago-area steakhouse, and he was cut shortly afterward by the Bears.

Hurd and Lujan have pleaded not guilty.
