TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Critics of a San Antonio judge who warned émigrés not to turn their backs on President-elect Donald Trump have started a petition on political web site MoveOn.org to censure him.

Others are calling for his resignation.

Federal Magistrate Judge John Primomo told the group of the nation's newest citizens, "I can assure you that whether you voted for [Trump] or you did not vote for him, if you are a citizen of the United States, he is your president and he will be your president," according to CBS affiliate KHOU. "And if you do not like that, you need to go to another country."

During the naturalization ceremony, Primomo also criticized protesters and NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.

He later told reporters, his speech was not a political endorsement, but an endorsement of American election laws.

"I did not vote for Donald Trump if that has anything to do with it. But he is going to be the president of the United States, and everyone needs to acknowledge that," said Primomo.

The online petition currently has more than 400 signatures.
