House Fire Kills 2 People In Collin County

WESTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Two women died after a home caught fire late Monday night in the tiny Collin County community of Weston.

Interim Collin County Fire Marshal Jason Browning said that flames were shooting out of the home on West Street when firefighters arrived, just a few minutes after 11:00 p.m. Monday night. "We had to fight a defensive fire," Browning said.

Once the flames were knocked down, firefighters entered the home and found two bodies near the front door.  The women have been identified as 82-year-old Dorothy Kissinger and her daughter Cynthia Hendricks.  Family members told CBS 11's J.D. Miles that signs indicated Cynthia Hendricks died trying to save her mother.  They leave behind a total of six children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

According to Browning, an overloaded electrical circuit in one the bedrooms is being blamed for causing the fire -- which has been ruled accidental.

Units from the Weston Volunteer Fire Department, the Melissa Fire Department and the Celina Fire Department helped put out the flames.
