WAXAHACHIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police and firefighters responded to the scene of a house explosion in Waxahachie. It happened at around 8:45 a.m. on Monday morning in the 100 block of Arabian Road, near Highway 287.
Photographs from the scene show the home in shambles, with various pieces of debris scattered around the property, into the street, and even onto the roofs of surrounding houses. The two neighboring homes also sustained major damage as well, while a city spokeswoman stated that nine homes were struck by debris.
A total of 10 surrounding homes were evacuated after the incident, and gas was cut off to all of the neighborhood's homes as a precaution.
Officials confirmed that four people were hurt in the explosion. Medical helicopters transported two of the victims to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. At least one of the victims refused treatment for minor injuries. The American Red Cross has arrived at the scene to assist the victims.
The cause of the explosion is now under investigation. Atmos Energy released a statement Monday morning, saying that they are working with authorities to determine if gas was involved in the explosion. "At this point, it is too soon to tell what caused this incident," said spokeswoman Jennifer Altieri.
