Horse Equipment Stolen From DFW Charity

CEDAR HILL (CBSDFW.COM) - The plans for a local charity to help out kids this weekend, and in the future, were at risk after thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment. But late Tuesday morning an anonymous donor came to the rescue.
Kowboys, Kowgirls, Kids and Horses is a group that tries to connect kids to horses. The goal of the organization is to provide opportunities for children, who otherwise would never get a chance, to be around animals.
Monday night, workers with the group found that someone had broken into a locked area at the B&D Stables and stolen equipment -- including saddles and grooming gear. The stolen items are valued between $12,000 and $15,000.
"Everything these young kids have to ride with," explained charity spokesman Darren Hensley about the missing items. "And we do a ride out every Sunday. We call it Kick Back Sunday, where we help young people, get them started for the week, keep them out of trouble through the summertime."
Police believe the burglary happened sometime Sunday or Monday. Thankfully, the horses were not taken.
Tuesday a CBS 11 News viewer brought dozens of items to the stable. Some of the donated items include saddles, saddle blankets, cinches and harnesses.
The organization had planned to hold a July 4th event for children this weekend. Now, with the donated equipment maybe children in the program will be able to ride as scheduled.
Police are still investigating the case, but so far no arrests have been made. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Cedar Hill Police Department.
