Home, Grocery Stores Draw Crowds Before Storm
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – A day ago, North Texans were walking around in short sleeves and shorts. Now, they are prepping for a storm that could drop significant ice across much of the area.
You could call it Operation Preparation. Area residents spent Thursday getting their homes and lives ready, if weather conditions make it too risky to venture outdoors this weekend.
At a Northeast Dallas Home Depot, a crowd of customers swarmed over firewood, ice melt, plant covers, and portable home heaters.
"Well, I'm just covering my pipes...and wishing and hoping they don't freeze," said shopper P.J. Gibson.
"I'm going grocery shopping after this. A little worried to get out later? I just don't want to do it with my kids, the fear of that," said another Home Depot shopper, Julie Hughes.
Local grocery stores were just as busy. Susan Keys found herself in a long line of other pre-freeze grocery-grabbers filling the aisles of this Kroger. The plan: stock the cupboards now, before a trip to the store becomes an icy gamble.
"I know how it gets after work, so I thought I better get it done now," she said early Thursday afternoon. "It's already getting a little crazy."
