Home Destroyed By Tornado Rebuilt For Granbury Family
GRANBURY (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Volunteers in North Texas are helping a single mother of four rebuild her home after it was destroyed by the tornadoes that touched down in Granbury on May 15.
Olga Hernandez lost her home just three days before she was scheduled to move in when a tornado swept through the area. The twister was one of sixteen that touched in North Texas. All of the six storm deaths that night were in Granbury.
Hernandez says it's a miracle she wasn't living in the home when the tornado struck. She says she's grateful the community is helping her rebuild.
Volunteers started the rebuilding Wednesday with sponsorship by the General Motors Foundation in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International.
As part of broader rebuilding efforts in Hood County, GM donated $500,000 to Habitat for Humanity. Meanwhile, Community Bank and Hood County Habitat for Humanity raised $160,000.
