Holland Climbing Rangers' All-Time Strikeouts List

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- While Yu Darvish is the most prolific strikeout pitcher on this year's club, another Ranger is quickly climbing the teams' all-time strikeout list.

With five punch-outs in last week's 5-4 win over the Houston Astros, left-hander Derek Holland passed former Ranger Darren Oliver for 10th on the club's all-time strikeouts list with 630.

Though largely an empty statistic to Holland, there is significance in passing the former Ranger.

"To pass a guy like him, that means a lot to me," said Holland following his last start. "He's been somebody that helped me out big time, mentoring and everything. It's an honor to pass him."

In three stints and 11 seasons with the Rangers, Oliver appeared in 317 games with the club, starting 137. The veteran last appeared in Texas in 2010 and 2011, Holland's second and third seasons in the league.

Holland needed only 134 games (116 starts) to break into the team's top-10, averaging 7.63 K/9 over his career – the fifth best mark in club history.

By comparison, Darvish is striking out batters at a clip of 11.17 K/9 over his first two seasons.

Holland's next target on the list: former Rangers' and current Angels' pitcher C.J. Wilson.

Though Rangers fans would love to see Holland pass the much-maligned Wilson, Holland is not focused on the statistic.

"I'm not going to get caught up in that," said Holland. "I have to get out there and do my job."

With a win on Tuesday against Seattle, Holland can also join Kenny Rogers as the only Texas lefties with three consecutive 10-win seasons.

Here is the Rangers' top-10 strikeouts list of all-time:

  1. Charlie Hough, 1452
  2. Bobby Witt, 1405
  3. Kenny Rogers, 1201
  4. Nolan Ryan, 939
  5. Fergie Jenkins, 895
  6. Kevin Brown, 742
  7. Jose Guzman, 715
  8. Rick Helling, 687
  9. CJ Wilson, 637
  10. Derek Holland, 630
  11. Darren Olive 629
