Hit & Run Victim's Grandfather Relieved & Devastated Over Arrest
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 NEWS) - A middle school teacher, accused of killing a six-year-old Grand Prairie boy in a hit and run wreck has turned herself into police.
Police officers say Tammy Lowe was driving the black Toyota Yaris that struck the boy last Thursday night.
They say she ran a red light and hit little John Paul Raidy while he was in a crosswalk with his mother and two-year-old sister.
"We're relieved this person has turned themselves in. At the same time, we're devastated that it's a teacher," Steven Raidy said. Raidy, is the boy's grandfather.
"It's going to be a healing process as far as forgiveness. But the woman did something right, even though she did something terribly wrong to our grandson.
Someone answered the door at the teacher's home in Grand Prairie but indicated he did not want to talk.
Steven Raidy wants Tammy Lowe to know with a single action, she wiped out generations to come.
"The way we felt this last couple of days is anger. We dealt with it. Now, we have to accept what's happened. But, I would like for this woman to know what she's done to this family," he said.
"What this woman single-handedly did was totally wiped out generations and generations of a family," he said.
"John Paul was the last little apple on her tree. And, our family will be no more," he said.
The only sense of hope the family has now is that John Paul will live on through the donation of his organs.
"There will be some person out there with big, baby blues. They'll see through eyes like he saw through his eyes. There'll be one special person out there who'll have a heart as big as gold and full of love as the State of Texas," he said.
"We praise him. We pray for him and just hope he will be happy in God's kingdom," he said.
The viewing and service for John Paul Raidy will be held at the Laurel Land Funeral Home. The viewing is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service will be held at noon. The burial is private.
