Hispanic Representation Debated In Fort Worth
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Fort Worth City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on a controversial redistricting plan, however, some people fear that the plan does not adequately take into account the growing Hispanic population. The council will meet Tuesday morning to discuss the adoption of new council districts.
During the redistricting process, the council kept the same number of districts and redrew one of them to include a growing Hispanic community on the north side. But critics argue that the city has ignored the booming Hispanic population in the southern and central portions of Fort Worth.
Some people have said that the City Council needs additional Hispanic representation, and they originally wanted officials to carve out new districts in those predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods.
Whatever plan is approved on Tuesday, it will most likely not be the end of Fort Worth redistricting debates. The plan will still have to go before the Department of Justice for final review after the City Council's vote.
