Red Sox Reduce Napoli Deal From 3 Years To 1

BOSTON (CBS) – According to reports, the Boston Red Sox and Mike Napoli have finally agreed to a deal — one 44 days in the making.

The Red Sox and Napoli had reportedly agreed to a three-year, $39-million deal back on December 3rd, but concerns were raised by Boston over a hip injury that came up in the catcher/first baseman's physical.

According to reports, the deal is now just for one year. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman is reporting the deal is worth $5 million.

The 31-year-old will likely see most of his time at first base for the Red Sox, though he could also see some time behind the plate.

Napoli, who is a career .259 hitter, is coming off a 2012 season with the Texas Rangers where he hit .227 with 24 home runs and 56 RBIs over 108 games.

The most appealing of Napoli's numbers have come at Fenway Park though, where he's hit .306 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in 19 career games.
