Hill To Appeal Dallas Corruption Conviction

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It was the biggest corruption case in Dallas history, and former Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill is getting another chance to prove his innocence. Hill was convicted at a federal court in Dallas, but his appeal will get under way on Tuesday in New Orleans.

Oral arguments will be heard in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Hill was sentenced to 18 years in prison after jurors convicted him of bribery and extortion. The case charged that Hill accepted bribes from affordable housing developers in return for political favors at City Hall.

Hill's attorney said that he will argue against the prosecution's extortion theory, which he called "absurd."

Sheila Farrington Hill (Don Hill's wife) and two other co-defendants are also appealing at Tuesday's hearing.

Many of Hill's friends and family members will be in the courtroom to show support, however, Hill will not attend the Tuesday hearing. He remains in a federal prison in Kentucky.
