Highland Park Star Athlete Charged With Sexual Assault

UNIVERSITY PARK (CBSDFW.COM) - A star athlete at Highland Park High School was arrested and charged with sexual assault after allegedly raping a juvenile girl in his car over the weekend, according to University Park police.

Yale Holman with University Park police says the suspect, 18-year-old Ryan Romo, met the acquaintance at a party and took a taxi with the girl to his car. When the two arrived at his vehicle in front of his residence, Romo raped the girl in his back seat.

"He was arrested yesterday afternoon on charges of sexual assault to a child," said Holman. "He is considered an adult and she is considered a juvenile, so it applies."

According to Holman, when the girl arrived at home, she was taken by her mother to the hospital for a rape exam. The results of the exam were enough to warrant the arrest of Romo.

Romo was arrested and transferred to Lou Sterrett Justice Center but has since been released after posting bond.

Romo's father is Adam Romo Jr., the CEO of Eatzi's, a popular bakery with stores all over North Texas.
