High Winds Leave Thousands In The Dark

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - High winds are being blamed for a spate of power outages across the DFW area overnight.

Oncor reported more than 10,000 customers in the dark around 2:00 a.m. during the height of the problem. Power lines were snapped, forcing crews to come out and make repairs.

Traffic lights were also knocked out in a wide area of north Dallas, but there were no reports of any serious issues or problems.

An online Oncor map showed that the outages were concentrated in the eastern parts of the Metroplex, specifically Collin County and north Dallas County. Tarrant County and Johnson County reported less than 1,500 outages over the course of the night.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth had issued a wind advisory for counties to the west of Fort Worth until 5:00 a.m. but then extended and expanded the advisory until noon for all of North Texas.
