High-Speed Police Chase Ends With Crash, Driver Getting Tased

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - For nearly half an hour police in Fort Worth were involved in a high-speed chase with a man driving a black pickup.
Police were called on a domestic dispute at a house in the 1100 block of Trinidad Drive. When they arrived at the residence they found that the male suspect had allegedly threatened to burn the house down and had threatened his wife with at least one knife. Firefighters had been called to offer emergency medical treatment to the adult female.

As first responders treated the female in the driveway of the house, the male suspect reportedly burst through the garage door with his pickup truck, hitting a firefighter in the process, and fled from the scene. The firefighter was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The police chase weaved through Fort Worth -- north on Alta Mesa, north on the Interstate-35 service road and west on the I-20 service road.
At least once, police attempted to throw out stop sticks. The strip did not stop the driver, but temporarily caused him to spin out of control. His truck careened into a grassy area, over a median and into oncoming traffic on Oak Grove Road.
Undeterred the driver, who was then riding on at least one flat tire, continued with more than half-a-dozen Fort Worth police patrol cars in pursuit.
The chase ultimately ended when the driver crashed through a dead end street barricade on Milmo Drive, at the Highland Hills Recreation Center, just south of I-20.
The man, who was shirtless, got out of the truck , reached into the bed and picked up some type of duffel bag. Officers approached him with guns drawn, but he refused to drop the bag and comply with their orders.
As the man began yelling, while still holding the bag, an officer fired his taser gun and shocked the suspect. The man seemed to freeze for a split second and then fell to the ground. Officers moved the duffel bag away and took him into custody without further incident.
Police haven't said yet why they were pursuing the unidentified man.
No officers were injured in the incident.
