Photographer Helps Nab High Speed Chase Suspects In Dallas
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) -- An unlikely source helped capture three suspects who led Grand Prairie police on a nearly hour-long high-speed chase overnight.
It all began just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning when officers attempted to pull a car over as part of a routine traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop, and the chase began.
"There were several items thrown from the vehicle -- one believed to be a gun, possibly some narcotics," said Detective Mark Beseda with Grand Prairie Police.
Reaching speeds up to 90 miles per hour, the car led police through Grand Prairie, down I-20 into Dallas, and up U.S Highway 175 to I-30.
The vehicle then began driving down the wrong side of the service road on I-30 near Cockrell Hill Road, where the suspects encountered a television photographer.
"The photographer had some type of vehicle that may have resembled a police car," said Beseda. "The suspect actually thought that was a police officer, so he thought he was caught. He put his hands up and got on the ground."
All three suspects in the car were arrested. Police have not specified what charges they face.
