'Hidden' Homeless Becoming An Epidemic In Collin County
McKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - The bad economy is taking its toll in some unexpected places.
Collin County has seen a sharp increase in the number of people needing food stamps, and in the number of people who are now homeless.
Carole Mendelson with the Collin County Homeless Coalition has seen a 106 percent increase in the homeless population county-wide

Mendelson says that most of the people are what they call 'hidden' homeless - families who have lost their homes and are now living in motels. She says there are also a large number of young people - teenagers - who have been passed around to relatives and now have no place to call home.
