Hellestrae: Cowboys Have Disconnect With Romo

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Former Cowboys deep snapper Dale Hellestrae is in town and holding court for his radio show out of Phoenix, Arizona.

The former Cowboys/SMU Mustang says, "In fifteen years here, I never saw the weather this bad.  It's unfortunate for the Super Bowl Host Committee after they busted their hump to make this a special week.  It's this way everywhere though.  Even in Phoenix it's in the low 30's"

Helly said he sees a "disconnect on the current Cowboys with the team and Tony Romo that you cannot put your finger on."  He also added "I think they need fiery leadership from veteran guys and get back to being a physical football team and that starts with physical practices. A few teams still do that.  But a lot of people didn't practice like we did back then."  He's right.

Jimmy Johnson was criticized up and down for the toughness of those practices in Austin in the early 90's.  Maybe Jason Garrett should bring some of that stuff back.  I'll bet he's planning on it, but not to the degree Jimmy did.

Helly also spent some time with Eric Dickerson today.  Dickerson gave him high praise for his blocking at SMU clearing holes for he and Craig James.  Helly gladly accepted it.

Not sure what events he's scheduled to attend, but I'm told a Town Crier guy, complete with a bell and dressed up with the Thomas Jefferson throwback uniform, plans to follow Michael Vick around and read a scroll that outlines Vick's testimony from his dog torturing trial.   You gotta give the guy props for creativity.

From national media types on the FAN this morning regarding the Super Arctic Bowl: (Yea the cold backlash just keeps on coming)

"I don't even know if the go-go girls will be out in this stuff"  said former Packers great James Lofton.

"This place shuts down just because it's cold.  It made for a very nice steak dinner last night at Y.O. Steakhouse." said Former Bengals QB Boomer Esiason who is calling the game on radio for Westwood One.
