Storms move out of North Texas after heavy rain, flash flooding across the region
NORTH TEXAS – Heavy rain fell across North Texas overnight Wednesday and continued through Thursday morning. By midday, the skies cleared, setting up a beautiful few days ahead.
North Texans woke up Thursday to widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms. Radar estimations show 3" to 7" of rain fell over 24 hours in some areas. A flood watch for parts of North Texas was allowed to expire at noon.
On Wednesday, the total rainfall at DFW Airport was 2.8", breaking the previous record of 0.93" set back in 1999. Another record is possible for Thursday.
Thursday afternoon should be fairly pleasant, with sunny skies, westerly winds and highs in the 60s.
A wonderful weekend is ahead for North Texas. With highs in the 70s, it will feel more like April than February.
