Heat and Humidity Returns Sunday, Storm Risk as Well

Yesterday's front stalled and dissipated to our south but left us with a remarkably cooler morning today. Lows dropped to the low 70's in the metro area, even in the upper 60's outside DFW. It hasn't been that cool since July 16th.

Low humidity was also a treat for our Saturday, at least for those not worried about wildfires. Dewpoints dipped down into the 40's (they were in the low 60's just yesterday); the dry air wicks out the last of the moisture in the exposed vegetation increasing the combustibility.

Winds turn to the south later tonight and pick up. We should have only have some minor high cloud cover overnight. After midnight, makes your way outside and look in the NNE portion of the sky. You should see a nice meteor show as the plant passes through the thickest part of the tail stream of debri left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet. The Perseid Meteor Shower can produce 50-80 streaks an hour, it peaks over the next two nights.

A south wind shows up late tonight. This will increase the humidity rapidly. We'll have enough sunshine tomorrow to get the highs right back in the triple digits. Winds will get in the 20mph range quickly.

Another cold front is heading towards us. As it draws nears the Red River late in the day storms will erupt. We are expecting these storms to produce damaging winds, severe weather is possible. The Storm Prediction Center puts a risk of severe weather in our Red River counties:

These storms will continue into the evening hours, perhaps even into the overnight south of the Metroplex. The drier, cooler air will be in place on Monday with a northeast wind. We should have a daytime high stay below 100 degrees.

There is another cold front heading our way by the end of the work week. It (at least at this point) looks to be rather strong one for summer time. It should produce storms and then, by weekend, highs that'll only be in the low 90's.
