DALLAS (CBS11) - Frustration and fear is growing among some parents at Lakewood Elementary School in Dallas after a mystery source appears to be making several students and teachers sick.
Parents peppered the district with questions on Tuesday night during a meeting that was supposed to address rezoning issues.
"I think we're still in a little shock honestly. I'm mean we're kind of like, how is this happening? It's a little bit of a twilight zone situation," said Gretchen Darby, a parent of a first-grader who reported being sick.
Darby kept her daughter home from school Monday after she complained of headaches and stomachaches.
Several parents were not satisfied with DISD's response to the issue.
The district has told parents that its data loggers are collection evidence, the water is being tested and extra nurses are on staff to respond to any sick students or staff members.
"We were just getting a little bit of the run-around and some canned responses," said Darby.
DISD spokesperson Andre Riley told parents crews are repairing the cooling and heating system right now. He also said the tests are negative regarding mold issues.
"It's really, we're trying not to leave any stone unturned when possible," said Riley.
Parents like Darby said they want the district to dig deeper, both into the ground surrounding the school and through the building, before drastic choices are made by parents.
"If at any point I feel like my daughter comes back again and says she's experiencing a symptom, then I'll probably pull her," said Darby.
DISD said the data loggers collect samples every 30 minutes. Crews will know more as the evidence is collected.
