Hamilton's Slam Slams Carpet Company's Coffers
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Josh Hamilton's third career grand slam was more than just a boom for the Rangers, it's also been a boom for some North Texas carpet buyers.
CC Carpet stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area were running a promotion with the Rangers' star outfielder for the month of September that if he hit a grand slam, anyone who had purchased new flooring or counter tops from them would get them free.
CC Carpet owner Steve Fitzgerald says he was thrilled to see Hamilton's Wednesday night grand slam against the Cleveland Indians, even though he knew the hit would cost his company.
"We were hoping Josh did it and we knew he could we just hoping he would do it on the last day and get somewhere around the $2 Million mark."
Fitzgerald says the home run will run his company nearly $500,000, but it's covered by insurance.
Because of the promotion and Wednesday night's hit, CCCarpet.com has been down for much of the day Thursday. A message there says they were overloaded due to 'Grand Slam' activity.
