Haltom City House Fire Kills 1 Adult & 3 Children

HALTOM CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - Three children and an adult relative have died, after firefighters pulled them from a burning Haltom City home.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, a neighbor called 911 saying he saw smoke coming from a home in the 4900 block of Colonial Park.

Smoke and a broken window on the second floor were the only signs there was anything wrong inside.

The second floor is where firefighters found an unresponsive adult.

Downstairs they found three children -- a baby girl, a kindergarten-aged boy, and a girl about 10 or 11.

Neighbor Phillip Heard called 911 and watched the victims being taken out of the home.

"When they pulled 'em out, they didn't look responsive," he says. "They started CPR right away on em."

The Christmas decorations are still up outside the home, and sources are telling CBS 11 that inside, the Christmas tree was still up and a lighter was discovered under the tree.

It's possible, sources tell us, the children set the tree on fire, which then traveled upstairs where the adult was.

Arson investigators are on scene, but sources are telling CBS 11, investigators believe this was likely an accident.
