Halloween Heat A Nice Treat For Many

CEDAR HILL (CBS11) - Like bad guests, summers in Texas tend to show up early and stick around far too long.
And that could be a problem unless, of course, you're looking to become a princess on Halloween night.
"It's Jasmine!" explained four-year-old Lillian Blaine, when asked about her Halloween costume. And that pretty costume would somehow disappoint if it had to be covered up. So, the soon-to-be-princess' mom said, she, too, prefers Halloween on the warm side.
"Yeah, this is the best," said Danielle Blaine, when asked about the unusually warm—even for Texas—Halloween weather. Hands down, she said, for Halloween, heat beats the cold.
"Because then you have to cover their outfits up that they worked so hard on, with coats… and we want everybody to see it," said Blaine.
In downtown Cedar Hill, the thermometer rose along with the decorations. Still, organizers of the city's annual Scare on the Square said they've got a plan.
"We decided we'd give out our library fans to the adults… so they can keep themselves cool during the night," said Toni Simmons with a laugh.
Simmons is the Director of the Zula B. Wiley Library and event organizer. Simmons says she grew up in Florida, so the Halloween heat just feels like home. And she suspects that the North Texas kids don't mind much, either.
"The kids will have more fun because they don't have to wear a sweater or jacket… it'll be nice and warm tonight."
Simmons says the annual event will include a costume parade, along with treats from local businesses. A DJ will have everyone dancing, so organizers hope that guests will have too much fun to notice it's hot!
Even so, weather is always relative.
"Yeah, this weather? Perfect," said Blaine. "Perfect for tonight. Lots of candy!"
Scare on the Square starts in downtown Cedar Hill at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 8:00 p.m.
