Hail Leaves Behind Damage In Springtown

SPRINGTOWN (CBSDFW.COM) - Hail from severe storms pounded areas to the north and west of Fort Worth on Wednesday night, and cleanup is getting started on Thursday. One of the hardest hit cities was Springtown, where that large hail, heavy rainfall and strong winds left behind a big mess.
A driver in Springtown found herself stuck in the storm after a piece of softball-sized hail blew out her windshield. She did finally make it home safely, to the protection of her garage.
Even though most people typically feel safe at home, another woman said that the situation was scary. She wondered if her home might be destroyed by the storm. "Heard it pinging my car, so I turned around and come back home and put my car in the gararge," said resident Sheena Wilson. "When I pulled into the garage, it started hailing harder, and that's when it all started coming down."
"It just kept on going, seemed like it was 10 minutes," added resident Patty Adams. "I was pretty scared. It sounded like the whole house was being destroyed, because every window and every part of the house was being hit from all areas. It was pretty loud."
After the storm passed, hail stones covered the ground. But those quickly melted away, causing flooding in some areas, and carrying debris along the streets.
Homes and vehicles throughout Springtown on Thursday show much damage -- cars have been dented, windows have been broken, outdoor furniture has been ripped apart.
There are already a handful of roofing signs in Springtown neighborhoods, an indication of the repairs that residents in this city now face. Insurance adjusters are expected to be in the area on Thursday to offer a better look at what needs to be fixed.
