Hail Damages Homes & Businesses In Lakewood
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The neighbors all tell a similar story, it was a storm that seemed to come from nowhere.
Lakewood neighbors say there wasn't even any rain or heavy clouds but each describes the hail to be around 3 inches in diameter... the size of a baseball.
After they were dazzled by the hail, the morning brought a new light.

Omar Cavazos lives on Tremont street near Abrams. He started his morning by raking leaves that blanketed his yard. He had just repaired one of his two Mini Coopers from hail damage in Lewsville a few weeks back. His car escaped damage this time, but not so his wife's Mini. He says the entire body of the vehicle is damaged and the windows are broken. It's estimated to be a total loss.
His neighbor Cesar Contreres owns a Honda Civic, and it too suffered the same fate. He tried to rescue it but the storm came too quickly.
The front and back windows are destroyed and dents the size of baseballs dot the entire body.
Contreres also lost 17 windows and all his plants at his home.
81-year-old Harry Gibson has lived in one of the historic Lakewood homes for the last 40 years. He is saving a tray of about a dozen hail balls in his freezer as evidence for his insurance agent in case he has roof damage.
The historic Lakewood Theater that's been around for 74 years also suffered a great deal of damage. It's owner, Wayne Roden, says 90 percent of the glass in its 100 foot art deco tower is destroyed along with half of its marquee.
