Hail Damaged Dozens Of American Airlines Planes

DALLAS (AP) - American Airlines has canceled more than 200 flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport following a hail storm that damaged dozens of planes.

American spokesman Andrea Huguely says 62 planes required examination Wednesday, a day after thunderstorms pounded North Texas. She says 50 had hail damage. All but 18 were repaired and returned to service by Thursday.

Huguely says 217 American flights were canceled Thursday, plus one American Eagle flight, over schedule challenges due to planes out of service for weather-related repairs. She says American Eagle had 26 planes needing hail inspections, several had damage and all were fixed.

American and its affiliate operate about 900 planes.

Nearly 2,200 homes and businesses in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas had no electricity Thursday. Oncor crews worked to restore power.
