PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Powerful hail pelted North Texas on Wednesday night, damaging vehicles across the Metroplex and leaving many drivers with dented rides and shattered windows. But if you think that your car took a beating, just imagine dealing with thousands of vehicles now in need of repairs.
That is the case at several DFW car dealerships on Thursday.
More than 3,000 vehicles on Huffines Chrysler lots in Plano and Lewisville took a serious pounding on Wednesday. The good news is that workers did not find any broken windshields or windows. They did, however, discover countless dents on brand new cars and trucks.
A quick glance at the individual dings might not seem so bad, but owner Ray Huffines said that, when added up for all of these vehicles, it will easily amount to millions of dollars in damages. Workers at the car lots are spending Thursday assessing each vehicle. It is a painstaking process.
Fortunately, said Huffines, many of the new cars will be able to be repaired and brought back up to full value. Customers who have already purchased a vehicle from the dealership, but have not yet picked it up, are now allowed to replace their car with a different model.
Huffines recommends that everyone take a close look at their own vehicles as well, even if the damage does not look so bad at first. "It's really best to clean the car, to wash it, wipe it down, and look at it under artificial light," he said. "Then, you can see dents that you normally couldn't see otherwise."
