Gun Control Group Says Skip Starbucks
DALLAS (KRLD) - A gun control and parent group is boycotting Starbucks this Saturday over the coffee chain's policy on allowing firearms in their stores, where state law permits it.
Because Starbucks bans people from smoking nearby their stores, the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America wants them to also ban customers from carrying a loaded gun into the business.
"We are very committed and passionate about this and we love social media, said founder of the group Shannon Watts. "And I think all of those things will eventually get Starbucks to understand moms want them to take the safety of our children as seriously as we do."
Watts says several gun violence prevention organizations have asked Starbucks to stop allowing guns in their stores.
"They allow concealed and open carry in their stores and they've really become a flashpoint for gun advocates who want to bring in everything from handguns to assault weapons, and we want moms to say that's not acceptable."
Starbucks released a statement saying it's simply complying with local laws in the communities they serve and that the company believes that the issue of gun control should be best tackled by elected officials.
