DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A security guard is dead after an attempted bank robbery in Dallas Wednesday morning.

The armed security guard was shot with his own gun while struggling with the suspect at the Bank of America in the 3500 block of S. Lancaster in Dallas.

The suspect, identified as Courtland King, had forced his way into the secure teller area.  Police say the suspect took the security guard's gun and shot him several times.

The guard, identified as 55-year-old Lionel Newell, died from his injuries.

King then ran from the scene and confronted two people at the nearby Holy Trinity Church. There the suspect demanded keys to a vehicle from the two men.

Officers arrived and arrested the suspect before he could drive away.

The FBI and Dallas Police are investigating the robbery and shooting.  King has been jailed and will likely face capital murder charges for the incident.

The carjacking victims from the church were not injured.
