Group Files Ethics Complaint On Texas Lawmaker
A group of Democrats has filed an ethics complaint against a Dallas-area lawmaker for driving a Mercedes-Benz owned by a company that makes millions through state transportation contracts.
The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday that the Texas Values in Action Coalition's complaint claims that state Rep. Linda Harper-Brown, an Irving Republican, should have reported the car as a gift on financial disclosure forms required of Texas office holders.
Last week Harper-Brown, who denies wrongdoing, announced that she no longer drives the 2010 Mercedes E550 owned by Durable Enterprises Equipment Ltd. because some perceived it as improper.
Harper-Brown sits on the powerful House Transportation Committee. Durable does work for the Texas Department of Transportation.
